Details
For those who want to ease into the day at their own pace, Capitol Hill is just steps from the hotel. This relaxed, self-guided route takes you past three of Washington’s most iconic civic landmarks: The Capitol Building (home to the United States legislature), the Library of Congress (the de facto national library of the United States), and the Supreme Court (the country’s highest court).
No agenda, no group, no rush. Walk at your own pace, and if you have time to spare, the route passes close to Eastern Market, a historic neighborhood market dating back to 1873, and the Folger Shakespeare Library, home to the world’s largest Shakespeare collection.
Most sites open between 9 and 11 AM, so a mid-morning start works best. Wrap up the tour whenever you’re done and use the rest of the day however you need.
